Seaside Heights Sun and Fun Promo Tourism Film 1960

By Laura • August 17th, 2009

This promotional film from 1960 was discovered by Peter J. Smith, Director of the Seaside Heights Office of Public Relations in May 2008, and was converted to modern video format by Joe
Verderosa of Greenrose Media. Peter had seen this film once before in his life, when it was shown by Mr. Hugh J. Boyd, Principal of his namesake school in Seaside Heights.
Peter spent five years looking for this video inside the Borough Hall. One day, he had to reach high on a shelf to retrieve a box of 8 radios.
However, the box only had 7 radios inside. This made him grab a stepladder and look for the radio. The radio was found on top of a reel of film, which turned out to be the long-lost Sun and Fun video. We like to think that the spirit of J. Stanley Tunney, who appears in this film, and is believed to occassionally make a paranormal visit to the Borough Hall, led us to this valuable piece of history.

The pool still …
The pool still exists. The substructure of the water park is built above the pool’s top rim, as to preserve it. Parts of its deepest end make up parts of the water park, on the very eastern tip.

SInce when are they …
SInce when are they the life blood of our economy? No one I know makes money from them, or earns a living at a business that requires them to survive. What the do is raise my taxes because I have to pay for the extra police, fire and first aid required to scrape them off the pavement every summer. They need to stay home.
