What does a publicist in acting do?

By Laura • August 28th, 2009

What do publicist do for their actors, and when is it right to hire one?

A publicist gets their client interviewed in the press. If you see an interview with some celebrity in People magazine, it’s their publicist who not only set it up, but also talks to the publication about what subjects her client will and will not discuss. A publicist will also try to get their client invited to events they know the press will attend – movie premieres, charity events, etc in an effort to get their pictures in the press. They also do damage control, like if a celebrity is arrested or goes to rehab
